March for Life, Photos, Announcement

Dear Friends,

Last week I attended my first March for Life pilgrimage to Washington, D.C. to mark the 40th Anniversary of the passage of Roe vs. Wade.  What an experience to pray with 10,000 on Thursday evening at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and then join more than 500,000 pro-life warriors marching up Constitution Ave. to the Supreme Court on Friday!  How moving it was to hear the personal stories from women who regret  abortion, and from those who survived abortion or were conceived in rape and adopted.  What a feeling of hope to see the numbers of young people, under the age of 25, enthusiastically participating in the rallies and the march!  It was quite an inspiration.  (Photos will be available on the vigil for life website within the next week.)

I have a personal experience from this trip to tell you and ask for your prayers for this mother.  Thursday night after returning from the Opening Vigil Mass at the Basilica, we went to a bar/grill for a burger before retiring for the night.  Since all tables were taken, we sat at the bar.  The bartender saw the Pro-Life button on my coat and immediately told me she was pregnant.  After I congratulated her, she went on to tell me she had thought about having an abortion after hearing this news but couldn't go through with it.  She said that, even though she was on birth control, she became pregnant.  Her doctor told her she was having a "miracle baby" because this shouldn't have happened.  With two other kids at home, going through a divorce, and trying to go back to school, she contemplated abortion but couldn't take that final step.  I told her she will never regret making the decision to let her baby live, that there are so many who have made the opposite choice and, if given a second chance, would choose as she has.  I said we would pray for her and told her there is help available for her if she needs it.  Had I not worn my Pro-Life button, this woman would not have opened up to me.  She wouldn't have known who I was or why I was in Washington.  You never know when or how God might use you but I think He put me there that night with that button on my coat to give her hope and affirm to her that she is making the right choice.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Prayer Requests

Dear Prayer Warriors,
On this 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, please include these people in your prayers:
  • Yesterday Planned Parenthood was closed but prayer warriors were still out on the sidewalk in prayer.  A car pulled over and a woman told of her friend, pregnant and contemplating abortion. She said she didn't know what caused her to turn down this street but when she saw help out on the sidewalk, she was glad she did!  The sidewalk counselor sent her to the Women's Care Center; she returned, promising she would try to get her friend over there for help.
  • Katie Haun, a 40 Days for Life prayer warrior, will have surgery on Jan. 29th.
  • Jen Vanderwiel, a staff member at the Women's Care Center, asked for prayers for her daughter Lily who will have surgery on Jan. 28th.
  • All heading to Washington, D.C. for the March for Life.
God bless you all,
Bette

This past Friday, through the work of the Holy Spirit, sidewalk counselors convinced a woman to turn away from the Planned Parenthood abortion mill and go across the street to the Women's Care Center!  When she completed her session with them, she returned to thank the sidewalk counselors for their prayers and their help.  She is 4 weeks pregnant and very happy, very thankful for the excellent care and help she received at the Women's Care Center.  Praise God!  Please keep her and her child in your prayers.  "The Lord hears the cry of the poor....blessed be the Lord!"

Roe vs. Wade 40th Dolorous Anniversary

Next Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, is the 40th anniversary of the infamous Roe vs. Wade decision, resulting in the loss of more than 55 million innocent lives  due to abortion.  Vigil for Life commemorated this sorrowful anniversary last Saturday outside on the State St. steps of the Capitol and inside at St. Patrick's Church, followed by a potluck lunch and a fantastic presentation by Jerry Schmutte of Pro-Life Wisconsin. In all, about 150 people joined us from the Madison area and more distant communities, including Thorpe, Boscobel, Hollendale, Necedah, Oconomowoc, Milwaukee and Markesan.  We are so thankful to Fr. Sasse for leading us in the Rosary, to Will Goodman and Jen Dunnett from the Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe who brought Our Lady's image, to Peggy Hamill and Jerry Schmutte from Pro-Life Wisconsin, and to all who attended, contributed food, and helped with this event.  We were blessed with good weather, windy but sunny!  Thank you, Dear Lord!  Photos will be posted on the website in a week or two.

A Poem for Reflection on this 40th Anniversary (printed with permission of The Catholic Devotional

I Too Had Love To Give
by Rick Christensen

I'd have been there for you
when you were grey and old.
Now all that you will have
is pain and remorse untold.

Was it not in Earthly pleasure
that you and daddy made me?
Why then for worldly treasure
the farewell that you bade me?

When you killed me, no tears,
just a sigh of relief.
But one day, dearest mother,
you will know the deepest grief.

Why was I not adopted?
Could not someone else enjoy
watching me grow up to be
a delightful girl or boy?

Why did you slay me, mother?
Why not let me live?
You would have loved me, mother,
I too had Love to Give.

Novena in Reparation for Roe vs. Wade  (by Fr. Frank Pavone from Priests for Life)  Let us pray this daily as we ask God for His mercy and forgiveness.
God and Father of Life, You have created every human person, and have opened the way for each to have eternal life.  We live in the shadow of death.  Tens of millions of your children have been killed because of the Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion.  Father, have mercy on us.  Heal our land and accept our offering of prayer and penance.  In your love for us, turn back the scourge of abortion.  May each of us exult in hearts full of hope and hands full of mercy and work together to build a culture of life.  We pray through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Follow-Up on Urgent Prayer Request

Dear Prayer Warriors,

Here is the latest message on the 17 year old girl who had her court appearance today, requesting a parental waiver so that she can have an abortion.  Let's storm heaven with our prayers for this situation!

"The Lord is Merciful - because she is a minor, an attorney MUST be appointed for her.  The next hearing is this Wednesday at 3:00 (again, the hour of MERCY!)  Her procedure is scheduled for this Friday.  I do not know the time. Please continue praying through Friday!"

Lord hear our prayers!

Urgent Prayer Request!

Please pray that a choice for life will triumph here....

There is a 17 year old girl (Jane Doe) who will be coming to court on Monday asking the court to approve a parental waiver so she can have an abortion. Her mother is agreeing to allow her to have an abortion but cannot be at the abortion center in Madison when it is scheduled due to work schedule. The abortion clinic will not perform the abortion or accept mom's consent if mom is not there and the young girl does not have a court order.

Please pray for the girl, the unborn baby and the (grand)mother that the Holy Spirit may intervene and the decision to bring the baby into the world and given a good home is chosen over abortion.

Some Good News to Report!
This past week I have heard from two prayer warriors with positive results because of their vigilance out on the sidewalk!  One reported that, after seeing his sign pointing out the spiritual and physical dangers of contraception, a woman left Planned Parenthood, when the staff could not answer her questions about the risks involved.  Another prayer warrior convinced a woman, who was not abortion-minded, to have her pregnancy test done at the Women's Care Center and not return to the Planned Parenthood abortion mill.  Little by little we are chipping away their foundation of lies and one day, through prayer and witness, we will see this foundation crumble!
