Christmas is approaching. Our lives are busy and Planned Parenthood is busy taking lives.
This morning's paper contains an
article on a law suit filed by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin which
states that the "requirements for medical abortions are
unconstitutionally vague and should be struck down." A state law, which took effect last April,
may expose abortionists who perform medication-induced abortions to
possible criminal charges. Medication abortion involves taking two
drugs within the first nine weeks of pregnancy resulting in the mother
aborting her child at home. The
article relates that Planned Parenthood performed roughly 2/3 of the
7,019 abortions in Wisconsin last year. THIS is why we need to maintain
a vigil presence on the sidewalk! If we're apathetic, this will
continue; if we are steadfast, this will end.
Can you give the gift of your time to the babies, mothers, and fathers.....people you don't even know? If we succeed in saving even ONE child, with God's help, we will give a priceless gift - a unique, nonrepeatable human being.
I saw the following story this morning,
one which you may have already seen, but is perfect for those who may
be weary and in need of encouragement:
There was a man who was walking
down the beach, where thousands of starfish lay dying due to the
receding tide. In the midst of this, a boy stood, picking up starfish
one at a time, and tossed them back into the ocean. The man looked at
the boy, and told him, "You realize that you can't possibly make a
difference here, right? There are thousands of them!" The boy looked back at him, threw another starfish into the ocean, and replied, "I made a difference to that one."
We have open hours tomorrow, next week, and the week of Christmas. Please sign up and make a difference.....

Dear Friends,
Many thanks to The Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Father Sasse for a wonderful retreat last weekend at Durward's Glen. What a Day at Planned Parenthood!
Dear Prayer Warriors,
I know I just sent you an email yesterday but today's events need to be shared. This morning there were 3 turnarounds at Planned Parenthood! Praise God!
Please keep these 3 situations in your prayers and sign up for hours - you never know when you could have a day as wonderful and blessed as this one!
Rosary found!
A man who lives near Planned Parenthood found a Rosary on the grass just down the street from the parking lot. He had been saving it to give to prayer warriors to return to the owner. It has pea-sized brown beads with a wooden crucifix. Please contact info@vigilforlife.org.
For Life,
Bette
I know I just sent you an email yesterday but today's events need to be shared. This morning there were 3 turnarounds at Planned Parenthood! Praise God!
- After hearing from the sidewalk counselor that they could get a free pregnancy test across the street at the Women's Care Center, a couple got back in their car and drove across the street without even going into Planned Parenthood. It's very possible that they are now new clients at the Women's Care Center!
- Another couple pulled into the parking lot and opted to go to the Women's Care Center after hearing about their free testing and counseling services as well as the abortion agenda of Planned Parenthood.
- A third vehicle stopped at the sidewalk to get literature and never pulled into the parking lot. Again it was the free testing, counseling, and help available across the street that caused them to back up and head over to the Women's Care Center.
Please keep these 3 situations in your prayers and sign up for hours - you never know when you could have a day as wonderful and blessed as this one!

365 For Life Needs You!
Please check your schedules and commit
to a regular prayer time out on the sidewalk of Planned Parenthood.
Just because 40 Days for Life is over, we can't turn a blind eye to the
mothers, fathers, and babies who need us. Abortions still go on
throughout the year and nothing would please Planned Parenthood more
than to see us disappear until next fall. The parking lot was full last
week and it will continue this way without prayer and vigilance. As I
told you last week, those out on the sidewalk DO make a difference;
babies are saved! Now is the time to dig deep, put on warm clothes, and
show the abortion workers, the clients, and those who drive by that we
will not quit until abortion is no more. Below are the openings this
week; find an hour to sacrifice! What better way to show thanksgiving
for the gift of life and prepare for the birth of Our Lord.....

ANOTHER Turnaway at Planned Parenthood!
Great news to report!
Last Friday sidewalk counseling produced another turnaway at Planned
Parenthood! A woman, who stopped to accept literature at the driveway,
decided to cancel her 1:30pm appointment after reading the pamphlets and
talking with the sidewalk counselor. Smiling and crying, she stated
that she was not going through with it. Praise God! The counselor told
how unusual it is to have that kind of turnaway and, when a mother
unites with her child like this, there is great reason to rejoice.
Please pray for this mother, Lee, and her preborn child....
Not every day on the sidewalk will produce results as this and sometimes just being there makes all the difference. Sign up for hours - you could be the one to change a heart. Go to vigilforlife.org/calendar/ monthview or contact info@vigilforlife.org. Next week is looking a little thin!

Let us Pray:
Dear
Heavenly Father, we sing to You a new song, for You have done marvelous things. Forgive us when we allow circumstances to defeat us. You
give power to the faint and You increase strength in those who have no
might.
We rest in You dear Lord, and ask You to empower us again for Your service as You work out Your plan for us and through us.
May You receive glory through our victory in Christ, in whose name we pray, amen.
- This fall's international campaign: 789 babies saved (that we know of!), 6 abortion workers quit, and 1 abortion center closed during the last week of 40 Days for Life!
- Since the beginning of 40 Days for Life: 6717 lives saved, 75 abortion workers have quit, 25 abortion centers have closed!
- Here in Madison - last week we had a turnaround at Planned Parenthood! A couple exited and drove across the street to the Women's Care Center. Praise God!
- And we received the following report: Since the opening of the Women's Care Center on Orin Rd. last January, 5 clients have delivered babies and 3 more will be born before the end of this year! Plus....the WCC is increasing their staff! (See the specifics in the Courtesy Announcements below.) If you have been out on the sidewalk to pray since the WCC opening, you probably have noticed the steady increase in activity, prompting Planned Parenthood to plant a sign to clarify their entrance....think business may be on the decline???
So now we are into the 365 for Life vigil:

A Call to Action and Many Thanks!
Well, it appears we have much to do
after hearing the election results last night. It would be easy to sit
home and wallow in despair. Just remember - Good Friday is ALWAYS followed by Easter! We are suffering now but we know who wins - justice will prevail! Let's put our sadness and frustration to good use - this is a call to action!
We are not done with sacrifice; in fact, we are called to sacrifice
even more to accomplish our goal of closing down Planned Parenthood for
good! We cannot leave the sidewalks empty of prayer warrriors, especially now! Planned
Parenthood has been given a boost and even more approval to continue
their abortion agenda; their coffers are being filled with our tax
dollars and lives will continue to be lost daily unless we are out there
praying and giving counsel to those who feel there is no alternative.
Can you give more? You all came through and gave so much to make 40
Days for Life a success and we thank you! Praise God for what He
accomplished through you! And our "365 for Life" campaign resumed on
Monday, sending the message that we will NOT quit, that we will remain
in prayer and keep watch until the doors close permanently! But
we don't have the calendar filled for even this week. Please consider
coming out to pray during a regular hour each month; we need your
commitment. Can you give an hour or two to prayer each month? "365 for
Life" days and hours to fill are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 9:00am - 11:00am
Thursday: 1:00pm - 6:00pm
Friday: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Go to vigilforlife.org/calendar/ monthview to sign up or contact info@vigilforlife.org.
The open hours this week are:
Thursday, 11/8/12: 1 person needed at each hour - 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 5:00pm
Friday, 11/9/12: 100% filled!
Next Monday and Tuesday are also filled because prayer warriors have carried over their recurrent hour(s) from 40 Days for Life! Please make a commitment like this today! When you take the initiative to sign up, it means the Vigil Captains make fewer calls. I'm sure they would sincerely appreciate that help.
We still need one more vigil captain for week 5. This is usually only a partial week to fill. Please contact Vigil for Life with questions about what's involved!
Closing Event - Many Thanks!
We thank Fr. John Sasse for leading us in the Rosary on the sidewalks of Planned Parenthood last Sunday and allowing us to have a closing celebration in his church basement at St. Patrick Parish in Cottage Grove. Over 50 prayer warriors attended and we were blessed with beautiful weather! Fr. John gave a fantastic reflection on how voting for the current administration in this election violates God's commandments, specifically the first, second, third, fifth, and eighth commandments and how our religious liberty is threatened by forcing compliance to man-made laws rather than God's. We also thank the Events Team, who put together a timeline/history of Planned Parenthood starting with its founder, Margaret Sanger, in the late 1800's and ending with our 40 Days for Life campaign in 2012. It was a beautiful evening with prayer and candlelight - very well done. Afterward, we enjoyed cake and refreshments at St. Patrick's; we are so grateful for a wonderful closing event!
Let's not forget to thank the many volunteers who made 40 Days for Life possible!

Finish Strong--Help Needed! Closing Event This Sunday!
As we prepare this e-mail, there are still many hours to fill for this fall’s 40 Days for Life campaign!
Just this week a prayer warrrior reported a man leaving Planned Parenthood after being told of Our Lady of Hope Clinic for health care and of a car stopping to repeatedly thank them for being there.
Beginning Monday, November 5, we go back to our "365 for Life" schedule. Can you help? Can you make a monthly commitment to pray on the sidewalk for an hour or two?
How can you sign up for “365 for Life”? There are 3 ways:
On Friday November 30 through Saturday afternoon December 1st, the Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Vigil for Life will be hosting the Fifth Annual Respect Life Retreat. This special pre-Advent retreat will be held once again in the beautiful retreat center of Durward’s Glen near Baraboo, WI.
(See: http://www. devilslakewisconsin.com/ information-center/other- natural-areas/durwards-glen/)
Our Retreat Master will be Fr. John Sasse a wonderful Catholic priest from the Diocese of Madison. This event will offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Liturgy of the Hours, silent prayer and time for personal reflection. Those who are involved in work to build a culture of life are invited to attend, but the retreat is open to everyone.
Spaces for the Respect Life Retreat are limited, so please call now to reserve your room. The cost per person is $55 and checks may be made payable to “The Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe” (Financial assistance may be made available for those in need). Please call Jen Dunnett at 715-340-2779 or email her at vitapretiosa@gmail.com to reserve your place.
Take time apart from your efforts to defend life in order to be strengthened by Jesus Christ, Who is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (John 14:6)
Praise God for what He has done through you to complete our 24/7 vigil on the sidewalk!
- Saturday, 11/3/12: Only 77% filled - 11 hours open!
- Sunday, 11/4/12: THE LAST DAY! Only 89% filled - 4 hours open!
Just this week a prayer warrrior reported a man leaving Planned Parenthood after being told of Our Lady of Hope Clinic for health care and of a car stopping to repeatedly thank them for being there.
Another prayer warrior sent the
following story: "While praying at PP a young man came up to me and
asked if anyone could pray. I said of course. He asked what we were
doing and I told him we were praying to change our world from a culture
of death to a culture of life. I told him people in trauma come
thinking they'll be taking care of the problem but just don't know the
consequence of abortion and that we just wanted to inform them of
options. He nodded in agreement. After just a few words, it came out
that he had visited such a place a few years ago and was the father of a
aborted child. He said he had gotten some counseling and was ok and
since he had just married in August, was hoping he'd have another try
at having a child and do a better job next time. I told him he'd make a
good father just by him coming to show support for our work. He said
he was going to go to Milw when he heard this vigil was going on here
in Madison. He said today was the day he decided not to stay on the couch, but instead come out and pray.
We started talking about making mistakes and God's forgiveness..... We
talked for about 15 minutes on other faith related topics and ended
our time together with an embrace. He asked how long we'd be doing
this I said it's an ongoing thing and told him our schedule. I hope I
see him again....he'll be in my prayers."
This is exactly why we're out there;
it's clear that this father regrets the abortion of his child and has
joined the culture of life. These prayer warriors went home on top of
the world, knowing their presence made a difference.

THIS is Why We're Out There! Help Needed This Weekend
Dear Friends,
I want to share with you a prayer warrior's exciting story about her experience on the sidewalk of Planned Parenthood last Sunday. As she and her group began their prayer shift, a car with a young woman pulled up and asked if they were there to stop abortion. Upon their affirmative reply, she motioned to the back seat where they saw her 6 month old son in his car seat, a picture of health! "I did not abort," she declared, "because you people were out here!" To quote the prayer warrior: "What joy for all of us to hear her testimony! Of all the times I've been on a sidewalk praying, this is a first for me!"
THIS is why we're out there in the dark, in the night, in the cold, in the rain, without sleep....to sacrifice, to be uncomfortable for a little while, to pray for the baby with no voice, no choice and the mother who will regret.
As you let this story soak in, please look at the vigil calendar and come out to the sidewalk this weekend and next week - our final week of 40 Days for Life. We're approaching the home stretch and need you as much now as we did at the beginning. You may never know if you personally changed someone's mind by being out there but you may know for sure that, as part of this international campaign, you definitely played an important role in saving the more than 340 lives so far!

Appointment for Abortion Canceled! Stations of the Cross Tonight
Thank you to all who responded
and even promoted the special day of prayer and fasting last week.
Through God's mercy, a woman who had scheduled an abortion last Thursday
CANCELED her appointment and, so far, is choosing "pregnancy as a
viable option". These words, provided by someone close to the
situation, give us great joy but also indicate the volatility of it.
It's possible she could reschedule so please continue to offer prayer,
sacrifice, Rosaries, Masses, etc.; we are not out of the woods yet and
things could suddenly change....she could reschedule. Thank you, Lord,
for hearing us and please keep her on the track of choosing life!
Let us pray.....that we can add this baby to the 341 saved so far in this fall's International 40 Days for Life campaign!
Intention: We pray for humility in our work for God’s Kingdom.
Although today is filled (Praise God!), we have many hours this week to take care of....
Tuesday, 10/23/12: 92% filled - 1 at midnight, 1 at 9:00am, 2 at 11:00pm
Wednesday, 10/24/12: 96% filled - 1 at 2:00am, 1 at noon
Thursday, 10/25/12: Only 67% filled! 16 hours to fill! Yikes!
Friday, 10/26/12: Only 69%! 15 hours open - EEK!
Friends - We have only 2 weeks remaining in the 40 Days prayer vigil! With the Holy Spirit working through you, this campaign will once again meet its goal . Dig deep, persist in prayer, and one day we will celebrate the ending of this holocaust....
Please sign-up online at http://vigilforlife.org/ calendar/monthview or contact info@vigilforlife.org.

Let us pray.....that we can add this baby to the 341 saved so far in this fall's International 40 Days for Life campaign!
Intention: We pray for humility in our work for God’s Kingdom.
Reflection: There is no limit to what we can accomplish when we don’t care who gets the credit.
Jesus
Christ’s life on earth exemplifies a total submission to the will of
the Father. His humility, compassion, gentleness and thoughtfulness are
reflected over and over again in the New Testament. He was God
incarnate, yet He chose to be born to a humble, working class home.
How absurd it must have seemed to the
rich and powerful that the Son of God, the Messiah, the
one foretold by the prophets, the ‘King of the Jews’ was born and
raised as a simple peasant. During His thirty-three years on earth, He
sought no riches, claimed no secular power and gathered no possessions.
His short time on earth changed more lives, softened more hearts, and
gave hope to more people, than all the rich and powerful human ‘kings’
combined.
And,
at the end of His life on earth, by dying on the cross, He opened the
door to eternal life for those who heed his words and follow in his
footsteps.
Prayer: O Lord, help us follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Let
us humbly and diligently work to restore legal protection for the
unborn, the disabled, the medically dependent and all innocent children
of God whose lives are threatened. Let us remember the old adage that “He can never lead who has not first learned to obey.” And, Lord, grant us a peaceful heart as we labor in your name. Amen.
(Remember to park on the street only - not in the Women's Care Center parking lot!)

Dear Prayer Warriors,
We are all busy with family, home, and other activities these days but please look at your schedule and try to fit in an hour (or more if you can) to devote to prayer on the sidewalk. Take a look at the open hours below and try to squeeze out an hour of your weekend to help! The weekends are the hardest to fill and our vigil captains will spend hours on the phone; please save them a call.

Urgent!--Emergency Day of Fasting
From time to time we are alerted about
abortion-minded women. We have recently become aware of an extremely
urgent situation. More details cannot be shared, but it is of grave
severity.
Please dedicate today to prayer and fasting....Let us pray:
Prayer:
Jesus, open my eyes to your presence in the life of every child. Open my heart to joy in the birth of every child, a birth that reflects the joy of your own birth in Bethlehem.
As you shared life in the womb of Mary, so now send your protection upon every child still in the womb, and grant to their mothers the strength and joy that comes from welcoming the gift of life. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Please dedicate today to prayer and fasting....Let us pray:
Intention:
That those tempted to abort may understand that their child is already present, and already a real person.
Scripture:
That those tempted to abort may understand that their child is already present, and already a real person.
Scripture:
And it
happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary that the babe leaped
in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she
spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and
blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that
the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the
voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb
for joy.
—Luke 1:41-44
Reflection:
Jesus not only loves unborn children — He was one himself! Think about this for a moment. We often hear people speak of a pregnant mother by saying, “She’s expect ing a child.” Now if one is expecting a package, the package is not yet there. As reflected in our verse for today, however, this is not the case with the mother. Her gift is already there. The pregnant woman, a mother already, does not have a child “on the way,” but has a child, already present and in full possession of his or her human rights, starting with the right to life.

Hours This Week and Special Announcements!
We're now half-way through the 40 Days
for Life vigil and, thanks to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and your
sacrifice, we've been able to keep hours filled. BUT we still have a
long way to go! Don't sit back and let things slide NOW; we need you!
Looking at the week ahead, there are many openings from which to choose
prayer time that fits best in your schedule - please go to vigilforlife.org/calendar/ monthview and lock in your hours! You can also contact info@vigilforlife.org to sign up.
Open Hours This Week:
Tuesday, 10/16/12: 90% filled - 5 hours to choose from
Wednesday, 10/17/12: 83% filled - 8 hours open
Thursday, 10/18/12: Only 69% filled! 15 hours to fill! Yikes!
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Only 44 to 48% filled! Please help!
You have responded so well to our calls for help; please save us some phone calls and take action! May the Daily Devotional for Day 20 from the 40 Days for Life leadership inspire and awaken us to the need for persistent prayer as we stand for life on the sidewalk.
Intention:
May God’s justice sober our society; may mercy triumph over judgment.
Scripture:
Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man's brother I will require the life of man. Whoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God He made man.
—Genesis 9:5-6
Reflection:
Christians
of all people, entrusted with the Word of God as we are, must take a
stand. We must speak out. We must do all that we can to protect the
innocent, to pursue justice, and to encourage the repentance of all
those who bear responsibility for this great evil.
Only in this manner can we hope to forestall the judgment that must otherwise surely come.
This passage should also be seen as an encouragement to educate and disciple our children and grandchildren about what it means to be human, and the responsibility that will become theirs in this ongoing struggle.
Prayer:
O Father, forgive us for our lack of courage and our want of compassion for the unborn and for those lost and hurt by abortion. Fill us anew with your Spirit. Renew our minds, strengthen us in righteousness, help us be people of salt and light within our nation. May every human being, from conception to natural death, be treated with the respect due those made in your image. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

—Genesis 9:5-6
Reflection:
The
value of every human being can hardly be seen more clearly than with
this verse. God, the King of the universe, has created all human beings
in his image, and declares forthrightly that shedding the blood of any
individual will require the blood of the one who shed it.
God's concern for human beings is not limited to any particular group. Indeed, his concern is universal, and includes male and female, young and old, born and unborn, disabled and able-bodied, the citizens of every nation on earth.
Abortion, the deliberate killing of the unborn, is the shedding of innocent blood. Surely the blood of millions upon millions of innocent children cries out to God. It is true that we live in an age of grace, and yet this passage (among many other texts which express similar sentiments) should give every thinking Christian pause.
