Only 25% filled on Wednesday - An Abortion Day

www.nmia.com/~iuzzolin/Eucharistia/Ministries/tidwell.html

The above link is a link to a painting that is called "Mother of the Unborn".

"Miss Tidwell, an American artist, was inspired to paint this beautiful depiction of our Blessed Mother grieving over the millions of aborted babies.  Normally, a picture like this would take her months to finish.  She completed this in two hours.

The stars around Mary's head represent the crown of the Woman of the Apocalypse (12.1): "A woman adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, and with the twelve stars on her head for a crown."  The large star is the "Star of Bethlehem".  The rose colored ball in the lower left corner is the earth in turmoil. The glow of her most Immaculate heart is an evident sign of the tremendous love for all her children, especially the most helpless of all.

The incessant weeping over this horrendous evil has blackened her lovely eyes.  The baby's Guardian Angel seems to be saddened over the death of his charge and grateful for the Blessed Mother's care and concern.

The baby bears the five wounds of our Precious Savior.  Note, both baby and Angel are weeping and the baby's hands are clasped in prayer.

The reason the Blessed Mother's hand and fingernails are dirty is because she has to scoop and dig out these precious souls from the trash bins, garbage dumps, and as in Wichita, Kansas, from a pile ready to be burned with dead animals at their dog pound."  (Rosary Novena for Life, Oct. 28 1992.)

Will you witness for life this week?

Prayer Warriors needed esp. on Tuesday and Wednesday - Abortion Days

"We all nod our heads that, in theory, it makes perfect sense for God to answer prayer in his own way, in his own time.  After all, God knows everything.  But it isn't easy when we pray, and pray, and pray, and don't see that God is answering.

I think the apostle Paul knew that feeling too.  When he wrote his letter to the Corinthians, he said, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known" (1 Corinthians 13:12).

On this earth, through our human eyes, we see only "in part".  The challenge is to keep on praying, trusting that God hears, listens, loves and acts even if we cannot see the evidence. My years with 40 Days for Life have taught me lessons in the importance of persistent prayer in the face of God's mysterious silence."

"Dear Lord, help me to accept your timetable rather than insisting on my own and to not be discouraged when the two don't coincide.  When I face frustrations, roadblocks, disappointments, and persecution in my attempts to do your work, as I surely will, help me to not simply bear them but to rejoice in them, because they are what strengthen me and help me to grow to be more like your Son.  It is no small privilege to participate with him in his sufferings - even in this small way.  Amen."

Do you have time to save a life?

Lately, I have been sent and consequently viewed many graphic images of aborted babies.  As heartbreaking as it is to look at these images; they are a stark reminder of the reality and brutality of abortion.  That beautiful, tiny hand so perfectly formed (by 9-12 weeks unique fingerprints are evident and never change); those eyes (that will not get to see the wonderful, beautiful world that God created for us);  those sweet tiny feet (that will not get kissed by a loving Mommy & Daddy or learn how to walk or run) etc.  Yes, so very heartbreaking.

This is why we must never give up; we must endure the cold, the snow, the wind, the rain, the sub-zero temps., and any other thing that makes witnessing for life not appealing.  We must persevere!

ONLY 44% filled on Thursday--a busy, busy day at Planned Parenthood

"There will be days that you may not want to do the work God calls you to do.  I have felt that way. Do it anyway.  That is why the pro-life movement is as effective as it often is today - because of people who simply decided to do it anyway, whether or not they felt like it.  And that is how I believe that, ultimately, we will win this battle for life - by each of us doing it anyway."

St. Ambrose Academy Faculty Lecture Series:  Wednesday, November 12th from 7p - 8:30p at Cathedral Parish (Holy Redeemer) 128 W. Johnson Street, Madison.

Guest Lecturer will be Vicki Thorn.

“The Biochemistry of Attraction”

Today, the prevailing view on sex is that it is casual
and carefree. Is that the case? Vicki Thorn has
disproven time and time again this faulty view of sex
in presentations across the country. Instead, in her
presentation, Vicki will demonstrate that
contraception, the key to “casual sex,” alters
relationships and the bonding between people. There
is, in fact, a “biochemistry” to attraction between men
and women. Men and women are made to be
complementary. Vicki will also answer the question:
“Are the Catholic Church’s teachings on sex and marriage outdated?"

This important lecture is free and open to the public.
Children are welcome to join their parents.
Refreshments will be served.

Prayer to End Abortion
By: Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,
And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
And our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, but for all,
Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

Election Prayer for Life
By: Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

O God, we acknowledge You today as Lord,
Not only of individuals, but of nations and governments.

We thank You for the privilege
Of being able to organize ourselves politically
And of knowing that political loyalty
Does not have to mean disloyalty to You.

We thank You for Your law,
Which our Founding Fathers acknowledged
And recognized as higher than any human law.
We thank You for the opportunity that this election year
puts before us,
To exercise our solemn duty not only to vote,
But to influence countless others to vote,
And to vote correctly.

Lord, we pray that Your people may be awakened.
Let them realize that while politics is not their
salvation,
Their response to You requires that they be politically
active.

Awaken Your people to know that they are not called to be
a sect fleeing the world
But rather a community of faith renewing the world.

Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to You in prayer
Are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth;
That the same eyes that read Your Word
Are the eyes that read the names on the ballot,
And that they do not cease to be Christians
When they enter the voting booth.

Awaken Your people to a commitment to justice,
To the sanctity of marriage and the family,
To the dignity of each individual human life,
And to the truth that human rights begin when Human Lives
Begin,
And not one moment later.

Lord, we rejoice today
That we are citizens of Your kingdom.

May that make us all the more committed
To being faithful citizens on earth.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Day 26: 40 Days for Life Open hours for this week

Day 26: 40 Days for Life Open hours for this week

"Abortion is graphic.  Abortion is so graphic that, despite decades of legislation, we can hardly talk about it without stirring passion like no other issue of our time.  Abortion is the most common surgical procedure in the United States, and yet the mere mention of it polarizes an office party or a Thanksgiving dinner with extended family.  And there's a good reason our culture likes to keep abortion in the shadows.  Outside of the context of a political debate, a judicial nomination, or even a sermon, when you're not talking about strategy or some abstract notion of morality, when you're simply considering the unadorned nature of abortion itself, then that nature is very simple: It's a practice that violently ends the life of a unique human being - a death followed by the nonchalant disposal of the body of a baby.

You don't often hear that reality discussed in the media or the back rooms where political strategies are formed.  Even so, it's the elephant in the room.  And it's why, despite four decades of legalization, abortion is one of the most controversial issues of our time.

When forced to acknowledge and confront the graphic nature of that death and the disposal of the body, many people have found their lives changed."

If anyone is involved in saving a mother and baby from abortion or if anyone is involved in sending anyone over to the Women's Care Center, please send an e-mail to info@vigilforlife.org so that we can share the good news with everybody!

The baby blanket in the vigil bag went missing this past week so we think that someone must have been involved in helping a mother choose life for her baby and gave her the baby blanket.  However, we never heard from anyone about this.  Please keep us informed.

Pope Francis beatified Pope Paul VI today.  The beatification followed the certification in May of a miracle attributed to Pope Paul VI's intercession: the healing in 2001 of an unborn child whom doctors expected to be born with a number of birth defects. The boy, now 13, is a healthy American teenager.

In 1968, Pope Paul VI wrote "Humane Vitae" ("Of Human Life"), which reaffirmed the Church's opposition to artificial birth control.

Bl. Pope Paul VI, pray for us.

40 Days for Life OPEN HOURS for this week

"Women seldom initiate first contact with prayer volunteers at a 40 Days for Life vigil - their boyfriends or husbands do.  Some are quick to defend what they are doing, even before the volunteers have asked them a question.  Justification and rationalization are verbalized far more often by the men driving than by the pregnant women, especially when they see other men standing and praying. And when one of those fathers has locked eyes with me.  I have often sensed aggressive defensiveness.

I confess, I've had to wrestle with my own attitudes toward these men. Sometimes, especially in my first few years on these vigils, seeing a boyfriend casually walk his girlfriend into an abortion facility often sparked anger in me.  Other men praying on the front lines have confessed the same feeling.  Abortion can be devastating for women, yet so often the fathers try to downplay it, acting as if it's no big deal.  But one thing became clear to me during my college years, even though many young men seem to not yet be aware of it: Abortion hurts men as well as women."

OPEN hours still this week!

OPEN hours still this week!

"Prayer is the foundation of 40 Days for Life.  It was one hour of prayer around a wooden table in Texas that led to the birth of 40 Days for Life.  It is prayer that moves hearts and minds.  Prayer is what speaks to the thousands of women who have turned around at the very last moment before their abortion.  It is prayer that opens the hearts of abortion workers and prayer that offers hope and healing to women as they leave a facility after they've had an abortion.  Prayer sustains discouraged volunteers and motivates hopeful leaders to bring this campaign to their community.

Prayer is our strongest weapon.  It takes the focus off ourselves and places our hope in God and his holy will.  And prayer humbles us when God answers on his schedule and not ours."

40 Days for Life this week: Unfilled hours

"Never underestimate what God can do when we just do the basics.  We can show up in spite of the busyness of our lives.  We can take an hour or a few hours once or twice a week during a 40 Days for Life Campaign to go out and pray.  We could easily list a hundred other things we could be doing due to our many other important obligations or due to any of the other responsibilities that constrain us every single day.  But we choose to stand for life for a few precious hours.

That's not an act that requires heroics.  The hundreds of thousands who have taken the step to volunteer discover that it really takes only a small effort to do a huge thing - to stand and pray as a witness to someone whose whole world is crashing down on them to the extent that they feel abortion is their only option.

And though our part is small, we must never downplay God's huge part - that he uses our presence to demonstrate his love.  God can get inside these abortion facilities.  He can speak to the hearts and minds of those who have come for abortions, as well as of those who work there.  We can't know their backgrounds - but he does.  We don't know the situations surrounding their pregnancies - but he does!"

OPEN VIGIL HOURS IN OUR 24/7 40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN

"Ask God to help you understand the true cost of fifty-four million children - that's just in America - who have perished under the so-called banner of choice.  Think about the women whose hearts have been wounded by abortion and those at risk of making a decision for abortion - the worst decision in their lives."

- David Bereit from 40 Days for Life my David Bereit and Shawn Carney (with Cindy Lambert) - pg. 250

We have some open vigil hours for this weekend.  Please prayerfully consider filling one or more of these hours.  Ask God to help you understand the true cost of losing fifty-seven million children to abortion.

40 Days for Life Prayer

Heavenly Father, You have given us a gracious gift, an opportunity to serve You and those You have said are so precious to You, the smallest of little children, the preborn babies. We pray that You will bless our efforts to set aside 40 Days across our nation for fasting, prayer and 24-hour vigil.

Father, pour down Your blessings and grace on us today and give us all that we need to do Your will. Grant us the wisdom, the fortitude & love to plan & carry out this life renewing program in our state. Touch the hearts of those with the talents and resources we need, and grant them courage to step forward to be a part of these 40 Days for Life.

Bless our efforts, Lord, and let them bring peace to our communities and a renewed reverence for all life, most particularly a commitment to defending our preborn brothers and sisters, the handicapped, the abused and neglected and the elderly. Use our humble efforts to save the lives of preborn babies, to transform broken hearts and to bring those who work in our abortion centers to renewed life through repentance.

Living God, creator of all Life, let these vigils become an offering to You from the residents of our city, state and nation, glorifying You and bearing witness to Your intimate and sacred presence in the life of every human being You create. We ask all of this in the Name of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Almighty and eternal God, Who has vouchsafed to regenerate us by water and the Holy Spirit, and given us forgiveness from all sins, vouchsafe to send forth from heaven upon us your sevenfold Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Fortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill us with the Spirit of Holy Fear.

Vigil hours are UNFILLED on ABORTION DAYS

"Thus says the Lord:
You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel;
when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me.
If I tell the wicked, "O wicked one, you shall surely die," and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt,
but I will hold you responsible for his death.
But if you warn the wicked,
trying to turn from his way,
and he refuses to turn from his way,
he shall die for his guilt,
but you shall save yourself." (Ezekiel 33:7-9)

Today's first reading from Ezekiel sends a stern message - You shall warn them for me or be held responsible for another's death.  Vigil for Life Prayer Warriors (and Sidewalk Counselors) can easily be equated to the "watchman" appointed for the house of Israel.  With our peaceful, prayerful witness, we are warning others of the evil that is Planned Parenthood.  Of course, we do this out of love for our neighbor.  As St. Paul said in today's second reading, "Love does no evil to the neighbor..."  (Romans 13:10)  Let us continue to expose the evil that is Planned Parenthood by warning our neighbors out of love with our peaceful and prayerful presence.  Your help is needed to fill up open vigil hours this week.

OPEN HOURS

Tuesday, 9/9 - Just 75% filled on this Abortion Day; 1 needed at 1p; 1 needed at 2p; 1 needed at 3p and 1 needed at 4p.

Wednesday, 9/10 - Only 45% filled on this Abortion Day; 1 needed at 8a; 2 needed at 9a; 2 needed at 10a; 1 needed at 12p; 1 needed at 1p; 2 needed at 2p; 2 needed at 3p.

Thursday, 9/11 - 70% filled; 1 needed at 4p and 2 needed at 5p.

Friday, 9/12 - 75% filled; 1 needed at 2p.

To sign up for hours go to: vigilforlife.org/calendar/monthview or call Gwen Finnegan at (608)393-8545 or e-mail info@vigilforlife.org.

Prayer of Love and Life
By: Rev. James H. Murray

Dear Lord, through Your Apostle, St. Paul,
You've taught us that there are three great virtues, Faith, Hope and Love,
but the greatest of all is Love.
Help me to understand that in order to love You and to love my neightbor,
I must be alive. Father, help me to value my life, and all life, and give me courage to respect, defend, and, if necessary, die to protect the right of everyone to live as You will them to.
Amen.

To Our Lord Jesus Christ, from Conception to the Day of His Birth

Seed of Abraham: From Your first moment of existence, I adore You. You were no less God before conception Nor less a man thereafter.

Sublime Christ Cell: Enshrined two hours in the body of the Virgin, I adore You. Your supernatural indwellling Sanctified all child-bearing for all time.

Evolving God-Man:Three days in Your Mother's womb gestating, I adore You. As You grow in space organically, Your glory fills both the Heavens and the Earth.

Rare Pristine Beauty: Four weeks evolving a cluster of living cells. I adore You. Wtih Your Mother in deep contemplation I ponder the mystery of Your Incarnation.

Ancient Word Wisdom: Five fortnights dormant in Your cradle of flesh, I adore You. Mary, full of grace, sustains God within: The creature Mother bears her own Creator.

Savior of Mankind: Approaching six months, viable, immaculate. I adore You. You took compassion on frail, human matter, To give it the dignity of immortaility.

True Root of Jesse: Seven full moons in the sanctuary of the womb, I adore You. Rejoice, Israel, for Mary has foretold: "All generations shall call me blessed."

Thou, Son of David, For eight months sheltered in humble pregnancy, I adore You. The woman heavy with Child now Turns to Joseph in urgent expectation.

Jesus, Judge and King, You come in the fullness of time as a Sacrament of Hope through Sion's beloved daughter. I adore You. You come to shed Light in darkness, To bring judgment and Life in abundance.
...and the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us...and we saw His glory and His truth in the Gospels, in History, in the Church, the People of God, and in His anointed Priests from age to age.

Excerpt from Mother Teresa's speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, Washington D.C. - Feb. 3, 1994

"But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself.

And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even His life to love us. So, the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love, that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts.

By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems.

And, by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. That father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So abortion just leads to more abortion.

Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.

Many people are very, very concerned with the children of India, with the children of Africa where quite a few die of hunger, and so on. Many people are also concerned about all the violence in this great country of the United States. These concerns are very good. But often these same people are not concerned with the millions who are being killed by the deliberate decision of their own mothers. And this is what is the greatest destroyer of peace today - abortion which brings people to such blindness.

And for this I appeal in India and I appeal everywhere - "Let us bring the child back." The child is God's gift to the family. Each child is created in the special image and likeness of God for greater things - to love and to be loved. In this year of the family we must bring the child back to the center of our care and concern. This is the only way that our world can survive because our children are the only hope for the future. As older people are called to God, only their children can take their places."
